Shop FAQs

Turn times can vary based on the time of the year and the time required to have your crankcase machined to new part limits. Typical turn time is approximately 6 months from engine drop off.

A deposit is typically requested after the engine has been in the shop for 2-3 months. The deposit amount is based on the estimated overhaul cost and is typically half of the estimated cost. Balance is due prior to/at time of engine pickup.

  1. Carbureted Engine: magnetos, diaphragm fuel pump (if applicable), carburetor (typically removed for shipping), inner cylinder baffling. The starter and alternator are optional for overhaul. No outer baffling should be on the engine.
  2. Fuel Injected Engine: magnetos, fuel pump, fuel manifold valve, fuel lines and nozzles, fuel control unit, inner cylinder baffling. Starter and alternator are optional for overhaul. No outer baffling should be on the engine.
  3. Airframe components such as temperature probes, senders, CHT probes should be removed from the engine prior to delivery.

Yes. Prop strike inspections are a common service performed at our shop. Typically, when dealing with insurance, the customer pays the invoice in full to AAE and insurance reimburses the customer.

John Alsworth started Alaskan Aircraft Engines in his garage back in 1977, the same year Tony Alsworth was born. Today, Tony has become the lead builder and head of AAE. His son, Pavel Alsworth, is following in his footsteps and started building engines in 2021.
